Codbones is the first-published work of Bradford Chase – 49 poems that reflect the poet’s early life at sea, work in the port cities of Gloucester, Salem, New Bedford, and Narragansett and his general observations on this maze of seeming wonders that is life-on-earth.

Brad Chase is a 13th generation Cape Codder who grew up in Harwich between a swamp and herring run. Trained as a fish biologist, he went to sea for three years on foreign fishing boats, then built a career at laboratories in the ports of Narragansett, Salem, Gloucester, and New Bedford. Codbones is his first poetry collection: a far cry from the dry forum of scientific reporting. Within Codbones, he explores his love for the ocean, unrequited love, love lost and found, and love for family. Mingled with that lingering preoccupation with the dark side.
